New Year’s Resolutions

Every year I try to come up with New Year’s Resolutions and find myself wondering why. I usually have a hard time sticking with them beyond the first few months of the year. The concept of changing one’s bad habits and starting fresh every year is very appealing and I can see why it’s attractive to people. My usual go to one’s are to drink more water, exercise at least three times a week, cook at home more, etc.

This year I’m not going to do that.

This year I’m going to set an umbrella goal that I’ve been working on for the last few months. It’s a pretty common one but also is broad enough to set several smaller subgoals to eventually achieve the larger goal.

Living a healthy lifestyle

In late October I saw an informational post by my friend and wedding photographer Lindsay all about online accountability groups and how they helped her to get in shape and lose weight. I became intrigued as I had recently switched gyms and began trying (and failing) to attend regularly. Every time I went I would wander around and do different machines then speed walk on the treadmill for a bit. It never really pushed me but it did make me feel like I was working towards my goal.

I decided to reach out to Lindsay to learn more about this accountability group and she put me in touch with Chelsee who was her BeachBody coach. I joined an informational group to learn all about BeachBody and got a quick 3 day crash course in the workouts and Shakeology. The decision was easy for me and I jumped in feet first by ordering a challenge pack that day. From there the rest is history!

My first accountability group I completely rocked it. Drank my shake and lots of water daily, worked out almost every day (played catch up the rest of the days), and checked-in with my group every single night. I was all in! At the end of the 30 day challenge I had lost 6.5 inches and half a pound and was stronger, had more energy, and felt happier with myself than I had in a while. The holidays kind of screwed me up with eating and workouts but I continue to drink my shake and want to jump back into things.

Since the wedding in May, by changing my eating habits then with this challenge group, I’ve lost a total of 17.7 pounds so far and I am ready to keep this momentum going! I’m really proud of myself for how far I’ve come to this point and want to continue on my journey to a healthier lifestyle.

Anyone want to join me?
